Pallon the Pious¶

Dead · Fallen paladin · Keeper of his own vault
| Encountered | Session 7 |
| Found in | The Vault of Pallon the Pious, beyond Bellhollow |
| Guarded | The Saint's Splinter |
He began with a righteous cause and ended as the thing he set out to oppose.
Finding him¶
Mirewick's mayor pointed the way. A villager had gone looking for the vault, which was said to hold an artifact that could help heal the swamp.
The party found the vault. They never found the villager.
The way in¶
The outer door required a blessing with holy water to open — an entry requirement written by someone who still thought of himself as one of the faithful.
Inside were shadows that drained the strength of anyone who fought them.
The inner sanctum¶
The final door asked for five offerings:
| Ash |
| Blood |
| Mud |
| Tears |
| Rot |
Gerald gave the tears, and it opened.
Read the list again and it's a fair summary of what Pallon became. Nothing on it is holy.
The fight¶
He questioned the party's motives before anything else happened — which is worth sitting with, given that he was the one guarding a cure to a swamp full of poisoned people.
A fierce battle followed. He fell.
The Saint's Splinter¶
What they took
The party recovered the Saint's Splinter, which promises aid against Auntie Bloat.
Worth remembering¶
Pallon is the third person in this campaign to be told he was making a mistake and keep going anyway. Urmon had Mormesk. Asterion had the horns growing out of his own head.
Nobody has said what Pallon's cause originally was, or who tried to warn him.
