Glasstaff¶

Corrected · Iarno Albrek · Leader of the Redbrands
| Encountered | Session 3 & 4 |
| Found in | Tresendar Manor |
| Real name | Iarno Albrek |
| Working for | The Black Spider |
| Now | Phandalin's jail, and not himself |
A wizard sent to Phandalin to help make the town safe. He decided running it was better.
The name¶
Sildar came north partly to find a contact — a wizard named Iarno Albrek, who'd arrived weeks earlier and gone quiet.
Iarno had not gone quiet. He had taken over the Redbrands, adopted the name Glasstaff, and spent the intervening weeks shaking down the businesses of the people he'd been sent to protect. Toblen Stonehill's black eye and broken arm were his work, at one remove.
How he fell¶
The party came up through the tunnels beneath the manor and surprised him in his quarters — literally with his pants down, behind his desk, reading gnome porn.
He surrendered without much of a fight and was shackled for his crimes.
What he gave up¶
The thing he couldn't name
Glasstaff had seen something in the world that looked terrible. Something that would shatter it as we know it. He'd been researching without ever working out what it was — but he had a feeling it radiated from Wave Echo Cave.
He also gave up his employer: he was under contract to the Black Spider, who had learned Gundren was surveying the cave and taken him to force a guided tour.
Where he is now¶
Still in Phandalin's jail — which means he was still there when the mists came.
The party found him almost catatonic, scratching unclean into his own arms, over and over.
Of everyone in that town, he appears to be the only one who can partly feel what was done to it.
Worth remembering¶
He was right about Wave Echo Cave. He didn't know what was coming out of it, but he knew something was, and the party lit it anyway a few sessions later.
