The Menagerie

One creature freed · Green seal cleared

A four-tier enclosure room west of the prayer-river junction, on Level 2 of Emberdale's volcano.

The creatures

The tiers held giant scorpions, manticores, a magma octopus, and a fire-lobster creature.

Gerald drank a potion of animal speaking and learned from the octopus that the creatures were filtering harmful energy from the volcano's operation. The work was making them weaker.

They were the mountain's lungs.

The safe

Fenro used mage hand to open a safe holding 2,000 gp on a weight-sensitive plate.

The octopus explained that disturbing the money would open the enclosures and release hostile creatures. It also revealed a hidden lever to disable the trap. The recorded account does not confirm that the gold was collected.

The exchange

The party released the octopus into the central river in return for its help. It swam away, and the green seal cleared.

The other creatures remain confined as of the end of Session 10.
