The dwarf who found the lost mine, and very nearly the dwarf who died for it. Gundren hired the escort that started all of this, then got taken off the road before he ever reached Phandalin.

What happened

He was captured by the Black Spider and held in Wave Echo Cave — deep in the mine he'd spent years looking for, which is either irony or leverage depending on who was telling it. The party found him there and got him out alive.

The deal

40% of the mine

In exchange for the rescue, Gundren agreed to give the party 40% of the revenue from Wave Echo Cave once the mine is operational.

Once is doing real work in that sentence. The mine still has to be cleared, staffed, and made to produce before a single coin moves.

Open threads

• Nobody has said how long "operational" takes, or who's paying to get there.
• The party is a long way from Phandalin now, and payment arrangements assume both parties can be found.
