A large sphinx sits before the central mine-cart shaft. Its employer requires it to count those entering and ask riddles; each correct answer grants access to one door on Level 1.

The party solved its riddles and explored the floor. It did not attack them.

The employer

The same language came up with Korr. The party believes the employer is Diamabel, who has taken over the volcano.

The sphinx appeared interested in doing its assigned work, rather than personally defending everything its employer owned.
