A career soldier well past the age where anyone expects him to be crawling out of a goblin cave. The party found him tied up in Cragmaw Cave, cut him loose, and gained a guide for the road south.

What the party knows

• He was traveling with Gundren Rockseeker when the ambush took them both. Gundren was carried off; Sildar was not.
• He led the party the rest of the way to Phandalin.
• He works for the Lords' Alliance, and came north with an interest in seeing Phandalin made safe and orderly.

The favor he didn't get to do

Once in town, Sildar volunteered to dig up what he could about where Gundren had been taken. The party got there first — the answer turned up in Tresendar Manor before he'd finished asking around.

He took it well. It's the kind of thing that raises his opinion of people rather than lowering it.
